Abstract

EVALUATION OF BLACK SOLDIER FLY (Hermetia illucens L.) AS A BIODIZEL SOURCE

One of the largest biomass in the world is insects, and an insect species named black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens L.) is taking attention in recent years. This species have the ability to convert organic wastes such as animal manure and vegetable wastes, which are an important environmentalproblem on a global scale, to protein and protein content of 32-58% and 15-40%, while they are at larval stage, without competing with food. It has been shown in different countries that cell debris resulting from the processing of larvae can successfully replace the proteins obtained from substitute oil seeds when mixed with poultry and fish feed. The biodiesel obtained from the oil obtained after processing the larvae in 90% yield was found to comply with ASTM D6751 and EN 14214 biodiesel standards. This review has been prepared to evaluate the international studies on black soldier fly biodiesel in terms of a clean renewable energy source and to raise awareness.
