Abstract


THE ANXIETY LEVELS OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE THE PATIENTS IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Aim: This study was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the anxiety levels of the individuals who have the patients in the intensive care unit. Material and Method: The sample of the study consisted of 117 patients who were in the Near East University Hospital General, Cardiovascular Surgery and Coronary Intensive Care Units between October 1, 2016 and February 2017, meeting the inclusion criteria. The data of the study were collected by using "Personal Information Form" for patients and their relatives, "State - Trait Anxiety Scale" for patient relatives and using the “Glasgow Coma Scale” for the patients. mean, standard deviation, percentile, One way anova test, tukey test, ındependent sample t-test and pearson correlation were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: The state anxiety scale mean scores of the patients with intensive care unit were 58.9±9.1 and the mean trait anxiety scale was 46.9±8.8. It was determined that there was a positive, moderate, and significant relationship between the state anxiety and trait anxiety mean scores of individuals with intensive care unit. In the intensive care unit, it was found that the anxious anxiety experienced by the individuals with the patient decreased as their age decreased. As the patient's Glasgow Coma Scale mean scores decreased, the individuals' state anxiety increased. The average trait anxiety scores of the women participating in the study were found to be significantly higher than the men. State and trait anxiety of individuals with lower income were found to be significantly higher. In those who want a place where the patients who have a patient in the intensive care unit can sleep in the Intensive Care Unit, the mean and state anxiety point averages were found to be significantly higher than those who did not. Conclusion: In line with the results, it is suggedted that arrange the trainings by the nurses on the factors and requirements that cause anxiety in the patients' relatives, planning of training programs to increase their sensitivity, physically regulating the environment that the patient's relatives are expected to visit and preparation of a waiting room where they can express themselves.
